ST. CHARLES, Mo.BLIS K12® oral probiotic (Streptococcus salivarius K12) exhibited various ENT benefits for children and adults, according to a new study the International Journal of General Medicine and Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy (Int J Gen Med. 2012;5:991-7).

Researchers from Stratum Nutrition conducted the study with 82 children who have a four to five year history of repeated ear and throat infection. A supplementation of BLIS K12 was given to the children for 90 days. BLIS K12 supplementation helped reduce the reoccurrence of common childhood eat and throat infections such as otitis media and tonsillitis by approximately 40 percent and 90 percent respectively.

A second study published in the Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy also found and confirmed BLIS K12 helps support ear and throat health (Expert Opin Biol Ther. 2013 Mar;13(3):339-43). Forty adults with a history of ear and throat infection were involved the study and given a supplementation of BLIS K12 for 90 days. Researchers concluded BLIS K12 to affect a substantial reduction in oral streptococcal pathology.

Found in the human mouth, BLIS K12 produces antimicrobial molecules known as Bacteriocin-Like-Inhibitory Substances that help provide a natural resistance to oral pathogens in ENT health.

The complete genome sequencing of BLIS K12 was published last year in the Journal of Bacteriology.
