SPINS: Natural Products Sales Outpace Conventional Products

SAN FRANCISCOSales of natural and organic products in 2005increased 18 percent over 2004 levels, surpassing conventional product salesgrowth of only 3 percent, according to new market data from SPINS Inc. In itsreport, The Natural Product Opportunity Report, SPINS suggests thattargeted distribution and new product development strategies could providegrowth of up to $3.6 billion.

As an example, SPINS (www.spins.com) pointed to the Natural Frozen andRefrigerated department, where sales are growing at five times the rate ofconventional, but there is a sales opportunity of nearly $1.9 billion. SPINSsuggests taking steps such as integrating natural frozen foods in withmainstream counterparts, rather than segregated into stand-alone naturalsets, could significantly increase consumer exposure and sales.
