SHANGHAI, ChinaCactus Botanics introduced a variety of grades of brown seaweed (Laminaria japonica) for the dietary supplement industry. Laminaria japonica contains high levels of fucoidan, a phytochemical that has been shown to provide support for hypothyroidism, fatigue and menstruation. Cactus Botanics provides its clientele with two distinctive derivatives of brown seaweed for a host of dietary supplement formulas:

  • Brown Seaweed Powder Extract (20:1 to 75:1, with more than 50 percent polysaccharides). With 50-percent minimum alginates, this version is suitable for cosmeceutical formulations.

  • Brown Seaweed-derived Fucoidan 85-percent is suitable for pharmaceutical and food-grade applications.

  • Fucoidan 20-percent and 35-percent is also offered for different consumer levels.

In addition, Cactus Botanics' brown seaweed alginates are frequently used in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries as a stabilizing, thickening or emulsifying re-agent.
