Crushed red pepper recalled

A New York firm is recalling boxes of crushed red pepper that was sold between April 6, 2009 and January 20, 2010 due to potential salmonella contamination.

BROOKLYN, N.Y.

Wholesome Spice, a Brooklyn, N.Y., firm, is recalling all lots of 25-pound boxes of crushed red pepper sold between April 6, 2009 and Jan. 20, 2010, because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The firm was informed that samples of its product have tested positive for Salmonella and is working with the FDA to determine how the contamination occurred. The affected products were distributed in the Northeastern U.S. and not sold at the retail level.
