United Food Group LLC, in cooperation with the USDA and the California State Department of Health Services, is expanding the ongoing voluntary recall to include an additional 370,000 lbs. of ground beef that may have been contaminated with the E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

This is the first product recall in the United Food Groups 30-year history, and because the companys policy is to err on the side of caution in its effort to protect public safety, it is voluntarily expanding its original June 3 recall based on concerns raised by the California Department of Health Services.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, seniors and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to food-borne illnesses. Persons who believe they have been exposed to E. coli O157:H7 should seek medical attention immediately.
