Collagen Ingredient Inhibits Skin Aging

ANAHEIM, Calif.BioCell Collagen II®, a chicken collageningredient with hyaluronic acid (HA), successfully inhibits activity ofhyaluronidase, thereby reducing wrinkling and enhancing natural collagenproduction, according to a new proprietary bioassay. Hyaluronidase, an enzyme, degrades HA, a glycosaminoglycan extracellular matrix constituent associatedwith signs dermal aging, including decreased turgidity, weakened microvessels, wrinkling, and altered skin elasticity. The bioassay, commissioned by AIBMR Life Sciences Inc., found BioCellCollagen II (from BioCell Technology LLC [www.biocelltechnology.com]) with HAconcentration-dependently inhibits hyaluronidase in concentrations ranging from250 to 4,000 mcg/mL.

The bioassay demonstrated that BioCell Collagen II inhibited hyaluronidaseproduction by 88 percent in vitro within the concentration range of 250 to 4,000mcg/mL, said Alex Schauss, Ph.D., director of natural and medicinal productsresearch at AIBMR. This finding provides in vitro evidence that BioCellCollagen IIs naturally occurring combination of collagen and hyaluronic acidmay promote skin health via enhancement of skin elasticity possibly resulting ina reduction in wrinkles.
