TOKYOOlder adults who consumed 200 mg/d of Hyabest® (J), a form of hyaluronic acid from Kewpie Corp., showed improvements in symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (OA) over a 12-month intervention. The study, conducted at JR Tokyo General Hospital, included 21 adults ages 50 to 70 years under drug and/or exercise treatment for knee OA. The Japan Knee Osteoarthritis Measurement (JKOM) score was significantly better for patients taking Hyabest (J) compared to placebo at the second and fourth month after the start of the trial. The study was conducted from December 2010 to November 2011, and has been submitted for publication.

This is the second clinical study on Hyabest (J). Study results published in 2008 from an eight-week intervention found a dose-related response in reduction of joint pain and stiffness in knee OA patients taking 200 mg/d or 100 mg/d of Hyabest (J).
