In November 2008 NatMed Research, Australia's leading natural medicine research center, completed two open-label clinical trials using Maritech extract, the certified organic seaweed extract manufactured by Tasmanian company Marinova. The trials were conducted on both normal healthy patients and osteoarthritis patients. Both trials are now being prepared for publication in a leading peer-reviewed medical journal.

The results of the trials demonstrated Maritech extract significantly reduced joint-associated pain within one week of initiating treatment. In healthy patients taking 100 mg/d of Maritech extract, blood samples taken after three days showed a clear drop in CD19 (B-cells), known inflammatory markers. CD19 cells are directly linked with joint inflammation. In osteoarthritis patients, assessment of joint pain after one week using the

COAT (Comprehensive Osteoarthritis Test), a validated tool for measuring osteoarthritis symptoms, showed symptom reduction of 6 percent in patients taking 100 mg/d and 21 percent in patients taking 1000 mg/d, a marked dose response. There are no other ingredients with clinical data demonstrating such a rapid response in reducing symptom severity.
