MSM May Speed Sports Injury Recovery

GREENVILLE, Pa.--A preliminary study showed that methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM) may speed up recovery from sprains, strains and other athletic injuries. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 24 men and women that complained of sports-related injuries were separated into two groups. One group received an MSM supplement; the other received a placebo. Over the course of 30 days, each subject took a pill three times a day and received chiropractic therapy each week. Patients were then tested for angle of motion. Researchers noted the severity of muscle spasms caused by the motion [a marker for recovery]. In the MSM group, seven out of 12 (58.3 percent) experienced what they perceived to be a good to excellent recovery. Four out of 12 (33.3 percent) in the placebo group experienced the same quality of recovery. Carolwood Corp. sponsored the study and supplied theLignisul MSM used.
