SASKATOON, Saskatchewan—

Bioriginal launched a “Truth in Labeling” service for its customers to help review product packaging and marketing concerning guidelines for products containing essential fatty acids (EFAs). The service provides assistance on purity and health claims, appropriate dose levels, nutritional information, ingredient statements, allergens, third-party certifications and accurate marketing information.

Manny Sabares, marketing director at Bioriginal (www.bioriginal.com), said: “Today’s marketers of fish and plant oil supplements face the challenge of understanding guidelines from government and regulatory bodies, private certification organizations, industry associations and international standards in their efforts to create ethical and successful labels for [the products]. ... Our industry is responsible for ensuring consumers have access to accurate product information to help them make the best choice for their health. By working in close collaboration with our customers, our ‘Truth in Labeling’ program is intended to provide assistance through the complex technical environment to produce successful EFA products.”
