American Longevity Files Health Claim for Selenium

CHULA VISTA, Calif.--Wellness Lifestyles Inc., dbaAmerican Longevity, filed a health claim petition with the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) July 10 to allow two health claims for selenium. Theclaims, "Selenium may reduce the risk of certain cancers" and"Selenium may produce anticarcinogenic effects in the body," areaccompanied by a scientific report from a biochemist at Oregon State University,Corvallis.

According to American Longevity's counsel, Jonathan W. Emord ofEmord & Associates, FDA has 540 days from the filing date to act on thepetition. American Longevity (www.americanlongevity.net)produces dietary supplements containing selenium.
