ChromeMate® AffirmedGRAS

BENICIA, Calif.ChromeMate®,InterHealth Nutraceuticals patented niacin-bound chromium, was affirmed GRAS(generally recognized as safe) for use in functional beverages by the BurdockGroup, following safety and toxicology tests run by a panel of scientists.

Two elements were key in the decision to certify ChromeMatefor GRAS status, said George Burdock, Ph.D., president of the Burdock Group.First was the historical foundation; trivalent chromium is essential forcarbohydrate and lipid metabolism in animals and humans, and has a history ofsafe use. Further support came from extensive toxicology studies on salts oftrivalent chromium, including ChromeMate, which provided safety confirmationaccording to modern scientific standards. This information, along with other data reviewed, provided thesubstantiation needed to confidently make the GRAS determination.
