KEARNY, N.J.Proprietary Nutritionals Inc. announced its Cran-Max® patented cranberry concentrate received approval from the Korean FDA to carry the functional claim: "Functional food ingredient that is helpful for urinary tract health." The ingredient is now an approval functional ingredient per Korean food and drug regulations.

It has been shown in several clinical trials to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). One 2009 study, published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (63(2):389-95), found administration of Cran-Max was comparable to a commonly prescribed antibiotic, trimethoprim, for the prevention of recurrent UTIs in older women.
