Ireland Warns of Unsubstantiated Claims for Noni Juice

DUBLINThe Food SafetyAuthority of Ireland (FSAI) issued a warning Aug. 4 that any medical claims forproducts containing noni juice are unsubstantiated.

There is no scientific evidence available to justify claimsthat noni juice confers special health benefits or that it cures or preventsdiseases and medical conditions, said Pat OMahoney, chief specialistbiotechnology at FSAI (www.fsai.ie). OMahoney added that the agency wasconcerned consumers could be misled by the claims and some may foregoconventional medical treatments for the medical conditions listed in somepromotional literature for the juice.
