NEW YORKA recent MSNBC article examined the growing popularity of Kombucha, a tangy, fermented drink made from live bacteria and yeast that some claim provides a boost of energy and improves immunity and digestion.

The black and green tea in the drink contains a host of antioxidants, prebiotics and polyphenols; however, reports have linked kombucha with serious complications, including liver damage, toxicity and metabolic acidosis.
