Kraft Awarded Heart/ Whole GrainClaim

ROCKVILLE, Md.On Aug. 8,Kraft Foods submitted a health claim notification that may now be used by othermanufacturers for food products meeting the eligibility criteria. Kraftsclaim, Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods, and low insaturated fat and cholesterol, may help reduce the risk of heart disease, hada comment period of 120 days, during which time FDA could have prohibited ormodified the claim.

Under Krafts notification (Docket No. 03Q- 0547), foodsthat qualify for the proposed claim must contain a minimum of 51-percent wholegrains, meet regulatory definitions for low saturated fat and lowcholesterol, bear transfat labeling, and contain less than 6.5 g of totalfat.
