OMAHA, Neb.Selling uninspected meat can land a person behind bars. That is the fate of a 63-year-old man who sold uninspected beef to schools.

A federal judge has sentenced Paul Rosberg to 18 months in prison, the maximum allowed under a plea agreement with the government, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.

According to court records the newspaper cited, Rosberg sold 2,650 pounds of ground beef to Omaha Public Schools that was labeled USDA inspected when that wasn't actually the case. Rosberg reportedly directed employees at Nebraska's Finest Meats to combine meat that hadn't been inspected with meat that had been inspected and deliver it to the public schools.

In exchange for the plea agreement, the government agreed to reduce a charge against Rosberg's wife Kelly to a misdemeanor and dismiss a complaint that accused him of soliciting a crime of violence and obstructing justice, the Journal Star reported.
