DSM, Glanbia, Originates and Bionops Laboratories introduced exciting new ingredients and products into the realm of digestion, omega-3s and eye health.
DSM launched Tolerase® G, a digestive enzyme demonstrated to break down residual gluten in the stomach, to the U.S. dietary supplement market. Tolerase G, or Aspergillus Niger prolyl endoprotease (AN-PEP), could help gluten sensitive consumers following a gluten-free diet who want help digesting hidden or residual gluten found in a broad range of foods. The results of a new in-vitro study published in PlosONE show that the AN-PEP digestive enzyme degrades gluten molecules in the stomach more effectively than other commercially available supplements.
In addition, Glanbia Nutritionals introduced OmniMEGA™ Advanced Omega-3 Powder to its proprietary ingredient portfolio. OmniMEGA is a patented, free-flowing omega-3 powder with the ability to formulate into multi-ingredient tablet, capsule, melt and powdered beverage applications. OmniMEGA is comprised of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil that are bound to a beta cyclodextrin backbone, making a compressible powder suitable for tableting and ready-to-mix formulations that is shelf stable, less sensitive to air and oxidation, and without the fishy reflux. OmniMEGA is also GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and holds two WO process patents.
Originates also expanded its portfolio of omega-3 ingredients for the U.S. and Canadian markets to include Romega®, a phospholipid-bound docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) manufactured by Arctic Nutrition. Romega is sourced from sustainable MSC-certified wild catch fisheries in Norway, and it is gently extracted from herring caviar and blended with fish oil for optimal viscosity. The Romega portfolio includes oils, emulsion and protein.
In eye health news, Bionops Laboratories released the first dietary supplement with citicoline (Cognizin®) from Kyowa Hakko Bio to French consumers. The eye health formulation contains a variety of ingredients to help protect the macular cells from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. In addition to citicoline (Cognizin), Biomacula provides necessary doses of vitamin E, glutathione, resveratrol, gingko biloba, and vitamins B1 and B6. Cognizin, a branded form of citicoline, is an essential substance for brain health, and it has been shown to benefit the eyes. Citicoline works as an antioxidant in preserving normal healthy visual function.
