LA MIRADA, Calif.Specialty ingredient distributor HORN launched MealShape, a patented "true cinnamon" extract clinically proven to reduce glycemic response after a standard meal.

Manufactured by Dialpha in France, MealShape is a natural ingredient that delays the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates that provide health benefits, including a reduction of overall glycemia and weight management.

"HORN prides itself in offering best-in-class ingredients and introducing innovative, clinically-proven specialty products to the market," said Xiaoming Chien, Ph.D., vice president of HORN. "Dialpha's human clinical trial has proven MealShape's ability to lower blood sugar levels after a starchy meal and helps prevent glycemic spikes and sugar crashes to help the body convert food into energy instead of storing fat."

MealShape is 100-percent pure Ceylon cinnamon extract or "true cinnamon," that can be incorporated into dietary supplements or in functional foods. MealShape is a starch-blocker that inhibits alpha-amylase activity and delays the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. In animal and human clinical trials, MealShape proved to reduce glycemia by 20 percent immediately after a standard meal without stimulating insulin secretion.

"Other studies of postprandial glycemia reduction revealed long-term benefits for oxidative stress, as well as metabolic syndrome," said Nicolas Chapal, Ph.D., CEO  and scientific director, Dialpha. "MealShape's innovative approach to postprandial glycemia reduction offers global health benefits for diabetes and cardiovascular health."
