WESTCHESTER, Ill.Ingredion, Inc., will introduce WEIGHTAIN, a whole-grain-based satiety ingredient, at SupplySide West in Las Vegas, Nov. 15-16.

This proprietary weight management system has been shown in clinical studies to suppress hunger, and reduce calorie intake by approximately 50 to 100 calories per day. The ingredient is gluten-free and designed for use in weight management applications. Recommended applications include low-moisture baked goods, such as bars, and soups and smoothies.

According to research from Gallups satiety survey and Ingredion proprietary research, over 33% of American consumers are aware of the concept of satiety, and 45%-55% are aware of foods and beverages that help them feel full for longer," said Lorraine Niba, global director of nutrition, Ingredion. But 22% of consumers look to whole-grain-based products to help them satisfy their hunger."

WEIGHTAIN provides three validated satiety mechanisms: starch fermentation in colon triggers satiety, decreasing feelings of hunger; increased gastrointestinal viscosity prolongs absorption, reducing calorie consumption; and whole grains delay digestion, reducing hunger pangs.

Earlier this year, Ingredion introduced its DOLCERRA sweetness and texture system for reduced sugar juices at the 2013 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting and Food Expo in Chicago.
