NEW YORK—Mitsui & Co., the U.S. representative for Morishita Jintan, announced new study results on Jintan probiotic capsules. In a study conducted by Japan Food Research Laboratories, the acid resistance of probiotics was compared in bacteria powder and Jintan capsules, which have triple layer encapsulation; one gram of enteric capsules and of powder were incubated in 900 ml of artificial gastric juice at 37°C for two hours. At a pH of 1.2, Bifidobacterium longum had a 79 percent survival ratio in Jintan capsules, compared to a less than 0.0001 percent survival of powder. Similarly, Lactobacillus acidophilus plus Enterococcus faecalis capsules showed 85-percent survival, compared with 0.001 percent survival by powder.

These results support earlier findings that Jintan capsules delivered active probiotic bacteria to the gut in humans, as measured by intestinal flora and fecal properties. In a study conducted by Morishita Jintan scientists, 32 men and 62 women were given Jintan enteric capsules with active cultures. A significant increase in defecation frequency and quantity was seen in the constipated volunteer group. Supplementation also improved fecal shape and color.
