LAS VEGASConsuming Lesaffre Human Cares new probiotic yeast, Lynside® Pro GI+, reduced abdominal pain or discomfort in the Lille, France-based companys 200-person clinical trial. Benoit Laplaize, global sales and marketing manager for Lesaffre Human Care, will present this study as well as the new ingredient at a SupplySide West VendorWorks session on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. at the show-floor presentation area, #10068.

There are only a few clinical studies on the efficacy of probiotics in relieving irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms, and those studies were conducted with a small number of subjects," Laplaize said. The results of those studies lack consistency and statistical significance. Lesaffres 200 IBS-patient study showed that consuming 500mg of Lynside® Pro GI+ per day is well-tolerated and reduces abdominal pain or discomfort after taking Pro GI+ for four weeks."

IBS, a relapsing functional intestinal disorder commonly characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, distension and disordered defecation such as diarrhea and/or constipation, affects about 20 percent of the American population.
