Probiotics Promote Intestinal Health

NEW YORKConsumption of enteric capsules containing probioticsimproved gut function in healthy volunteers, according to a proprietary study.

Supplementation with probiotics including Bifidobacterium longum JBL01,Lactobacillus gasseri JLG01 and Enterococcus faecium JEF01 (asBifina®, supplied by Morishita Jintan Co. Ltd. [www.jintanworld.com]) inconstipated and non-constipated men (n=32) and women (n=62), with an average ageof 35.4 years, produced a significant increase in defecation frequency in bothconstipated test subjects, whose initial defecation frequency was five or fewertimes per week, and non-constipated subjects, whose initial defecation frequencywas more than five times per week. In addition, individuals given probioticsexperienced improvement in fecal shape, and a change in fecal color from dark tolight. The researchers concluded these results demonstrated intake of Bifina waseffective to improve intestinal properties.
