LONDONMetabolic syndrome, a cluster of metabolic disorders including obesity, pre-diabetes, abnormal lipid levels and high blood pressure, is approaching epidemic proportions worldwide, according to a new report from market analyst Datamonitor. It estimated approximately 115 million people in the United States, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom suffer from metabolic syndrome, which is poorly diagnosed and difficult to treat comprehensively. In the report, "Metabolic SyndromeA Ticking Time Bomb," Datamonitor (www.datamonitor.com) suggests single pill combination therapies from companies including AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb may be well positioned to treat the condition.
