Tony Gonzalez, former tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs, has branched out his activities in the sports arena, as his new dietary supplement endeavor is seeing steady growth. While Gonzalez is now with the Atlanta Falcons, he checked back in with his former home in a piece for the Kansas City Star, in which Ruth Baum Bigus discussed the development of Gonzalez's company, All Pro Science, which launched in late 2009 with his partner Paul Edalat.

According to Gonzalez, the companys leading product is a protein powder, with other offerings including a recovery drink and an immune support dietary supplement. He said the growth rate has been incredible;" however, the company is looking to build further customer loyalty. Among the steps to cement their shopper relationships are personal phone calls from Gonzalez thanking buyers for their orders and seeking input on the products. He also attended several trade shows and personal appearances to promote the product line, and made a summertime appearance on Jim Romes sports talk show.

Currently, the products are primarily sold online and in some fitness facilities and upscale gyms. Edalat estimated the company has around 3,000 customers, with the goal of growing to 20,000 customers by year-end. While All Pro Sports started out of a small office near Gonzalezs home, it has grown to include nine employees. Its so key you have the right people and develop team chemistry," Gonzalez told Baum Bigus. We wanted employees who want to grow with the company."
