Milan, Italy—Indena USA’s Virtiva™ (GinkgoSerina Phytosome) was found to potentiate the cognitive effects associated with a low dose of Gingko bilboa extract (GBE) (Hum Psychopharmacol. 2007;22(4)199-210). A total of 28 healthy young participants received 120 mg of GBE, 120 mg of GBE complexed with phosphatidylserine (Virtiva), 120 mg GBE complexed with phosphatidylcholine and a matching placebo, on separate days seven days apart. Administration of GBE complexed with phosphatidylserine improved secondary memory performance and significantly increased speed of memory task performance across all of the post-dose testing sessions. And, all three treatments were associated with improved calmness.

In addition, Indena USA’s GreenSelect® Phytosome® green tea extract in the form of coated tablets (Monoselect Camellia®) was tested in 100 obese subjects of both sexes associated with a defined hypo-caloric diet (NutraFoods. 2008; 7(4):21-28). After 90 days of treatment, the product showed a clear weight loss effect along with an improvement in body mass index (BMI). Waistline was reduced only in male subjects. Besides the anti-obesity effect of the product, almost all the biochemical parameters tested (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, GH, IGF-1, insulin; cortisol) were found to be improved with respect to the hypo-caloric diet. Researchers noted, “Taking into consideration the high safety profile of the product and the total absence of adverse effects observed during and after the trial, Monoselect Camellia could be proposed as a safe and useful tool for obesity.”
