PURCHASE, N.Y.Nutrition 21 launched Nitrosigine, a new dietary ingredient (NDI) accepted by FDA shown to positively affect silicon absorption.

Nitrosigine, a patented source of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate, shows superiority over arginine in blood flow markers and provides evidence of other health benefits applicable to many market categories.

Nutrition 21 expects the new product to impact customers in sports nutrition, cardiovascular health and men's health categories.

In a study called "Metabolic Effects of a Novel Silicate Inositol Complex of the Nitric Oxide Precursor Arginine in the Obese Insulin-resistant JCR:LA-cp Rat", research concluded that the arginine silicate inositol complex is absorbed efficiently, which  raises plasma arginine levels, and it is more biologically effective than arginine hydrochloride.

Primary investigator James Russell said, Our research has shown significant protective effects of the novel amino acid compound arginine silicate in an animal model of the Metabolic Syndrome with treatment reversing impaired function of the coronary arteries."

"There is also accumulated evidence over the past 35 years suggesting an important role for silicon in connective tissue and for bone health," James Komorowski, MS, CNS, vice president of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at Nutrition 21, said. "Nitrosigine provides the benefits of arginine and silicon, with additional benefits from the unique combination."

According to the study, the ingredient almost doubles maximum blood flow and provides fives times greater blood vessel relaxation compared to Arginine HCl. Nitrosigine supplementation also increased silicon blood levels compared to normal dietary intake.
