Rheumatology Book Features Paractin

BRADENTON, Flor. Innovative Rheumatology, a new medical book published by InTech, discusses HP Ingredients' Paractin for rheumatoid arthritis relief. In chapter 11, "Andrographolide: a New Potential Drug for the Long Term Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease," authors María A. Hidalgo, Juan L. Hancke, Juan C. Bertoglio and Rafael A. Burgos discuss recent research of the ingredient's anti-inflammatory effects, citing two studies in particular.

In one double blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, researchers studied Paractin's effects on 60 patients with chronic, active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Patients received either 30 mg of andrographolide or a placebo three times daily over 14 weeks (Clin Rheumatol. 2009 Aug;28(8):931-46). The Paractin group experienced significant reduction in RA symptoms, including number and grade of tender and swollen joints. The group also had lower chemical markers for RA.

 The second study treated patients with chronic rheumatoid conditions for 48 months. Participants took two tablets of Paractin containing 150 mg of standardized A. paniculata extract (90 mg andrographolide per day). After two years, patients with RA, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis experienced reduced symptoms, while their serum immunological parameters of inflammation progressively reduced through the four years (Am J Gastroenterol. 2013 January; 108(1): 9098.).
