Solae Signs Deal with Poundstone
November 1, 2010
ST. LOUISSolae LLC formed a partnership with Derek Poundstone, a top strongman competitor, to promote soy protein through trade and consumer promotional appearances, educational messages and a media campaign highlighting the health benefits of soy. Poundstone started working with Solae in 2009 in a promotional capacity; the new partnership significantly expands the breadth of their work.
"I have committed my career to being a positive role model for young people in every way possible, and one of the best ways is in spreading the word about proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle," Poundstone said. This partnership with Solae will help us do that. Soy is a high-quality protein that's just as good as meat and milk, and it helps with muscle development and recovery as well maintaining a healthy heart."
Poundstone, 29, is one of the world's most respected and successful strongmen both in and out of the sport, winning five major titles in the past three years. His accomplishments include winning the prestigious Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic twice, the Fortissimus World Strength Challenge and the World's Strongest Man Super Series. Recently, he defended his title as America's Strongest Man. When he is not competing, Poundstone is a full-time police officer for the Naugatuck, Conn., Police Department.
Solae will also partner with Poundstone for a series of media events, including his new Poundstone Power Radio show on SIRIUS, stops in targeted markets and promotions in areas where Poundstone will be competing.
"We are very excited to work with Derek to help spread the positive messages of soy, as he is a great ambassador and positive role model for our brand and for all those he comes in contact with," said Michele Fite, vice president of global marketing and strategy at Solae. "I have seen first-hand the impact his message can make and the passion he has for his sport and healthy living, which is what Solae is all about."
