Black, Green Tea May Reduce Blood Pressure

KYOTO, Japan--Black and green tea may reduce blood pressure,according to a study in Januarys Journal of Nutrition (134, 1:134-8,2004) (www.nutrition.org). Fifteenstroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive male rats consumed either watercontaining black tea polyphenols, water containing green tea polyphenols orplacebo. Blood pressure (BP) was recorded continuously every five minutes for 24hours. Both systolic and diastolic BP levels were significantly lower in bothtea polyphenol groups compared to the control group, according to the study.
