Grape Procyanidins Reduce Atherosclerosis Risk

LONDON--The procyanidins found in grape seeds andgrape skin appear to stall the development of atherosclerosis, according toresearchers from the William Harvey Research Institute in London who presentedat the November 2002 meeting of the American Heart Association. Researchersdiscovered procyanidins inhibit the synthesis of endothelin-1, a vascularhormone that plays a key role in the processes that underlie vasculardysfunction and the eventual development of atherosclerosis. The news issignificant because it indicates polyphenols may be beneficial for more thanantioxidant properties, according to Polyphenolics, the company that suppliedits MegaNatural Gold grapeseed extract for the study.
