Swissresearchers induced hypertension in rats with daily oral doses of L-NAME (ArzneimittelForschung, 52, 11:797-802, 2002). Some of the animals were givensimultaneous doses of olive leaf extract and L-NAME, and others were given oliveleaf extract after hypertension had been induced by six weeks of L-NAMEtreatment. Researchers noted the olive leaf extract protected against risingblood pressure in the animals given L-NAME and the supplement concurrently, andthey also noted a normalization of blood pressure when olive leaf extract wasgiven after six weeks of L-NAME treatment.
