Heartland granola cereal recalled over metal fragments

WASHINGTON

Heartland® Brands is recalling two varieties of its granola cereals in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Israel and Trinidad because they may contain fragments of flexible metal mesh in an ingredient. The ingredient is a grain blend, and the problem was discovered and reported by the ingredient supplier, Dakota Specialty Milling.

The recall involves 14-ounce boxes of Heartland® Harvest Spice Granola Cereal with UPC 024300 090394 and best if used by dates from March 26 through Sept. 10, 2013); and 14-ounce boxes of Heartland® Fruit & Nut Harvest Granola Cereal with UPC 024300 090387 and best if used by dates from March 25 through Sept. 10, 2013.

Earlier this week, BBU, Inc., the parent of the Bimbo Bakeries companies, issued a nationwide recall of multiple brands of bread because they may contain flexible wire caused by a faulty screen at a third-party flour mill.
