Beazley Group launched a new insurance product for nutraceutical manufacturers, while companies such as Integrative Therapeutics, Cerebral Success, Life Extension, Arla Foods Ingredients, Allma Microalgae and Bifodan A/S have launched new ingredients within the natural products industry, some of which debuted at Vitafoods Europe, May 5 to 7, 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland.
First off, Beazley Group (BEZ.L), an insurer of healthcare professional liability and miscellaneous medical risks, announced the launch of Beazley NutraGuard™, a nutraceutical focused insurance product crafted to meet the nuances associated with this class of risk. Beazley NutraGuard provides a dedicated insurance form customized for nutraceutical manufacturers and distributors with the flexibility to cover products liability, general liability, errors and omissions (E&O), product recall expense, employee benefits liability, cyber/privacy, and hired/non-owned auto insurance. Coverage is available to companies active at all points of the nutraceutical industry value chain, from ingredient producers to product manufacturers to wholesale/retail distributors.
Also launching a new product, Cerebral Success combined Cognizin® Citicoline with other brain health ingredients to create SmartX™ for increased mental energy and focus. SmartX, which received financial backing from the TV show “Shark Tank," helps increase mental energy and overall alertness, while supporting other brain functions as well. Cognizin Citicoline is a major part of the detailed chemical composition of SmartX, which allows it to simultaneously influence four areas of brain power: focus, memory, mental energy, and overall brain health.
Integrative Therapeutics introduced another supplement focused on cognition, as well as one for supporting immunity. ProThrivers™ Wellness Flavonoid Complex is an antioxidant supplement that combines herbs and nutrients, including Setria® Glutathione, curcumin, green tea extract, resveratrol, alpha-glycosyl isoquercitrin and coenzyme Q10 (coQ10). ProThrivers™ Wellness Brain contains Cognizin® Citicoline plus theracurmin, hericium erinaceus (lion’s mane mushroom) and acetyl-L-carnitine. All individually support brain health; combined in ProThrivers™ Wellness Brain, they are intended to support cognitive clarity.
In the realm of cholesterol management, Life Extension launched a Chol-Support™, which utilizes Pantesin® Pantethine and an artichoke extract. Chol-Support contains a 300-mg dose of Pantesin® Pantethine—a branded form of a vitamin B5 derivative that has been shown to promote already healthy levels of LDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing valuable coQ10 stores, as reveled in a study published in Vascular Health and Risk Management. It’s combined with 250-mg of Pycrinil® artichoke extract from the plant’s leaves.
For weight management, Arla Foods Ingredients developed a new generation of dairy protein ingredients designed for inclusion in products that fit into consumers’ every-day routines. These ingredients include: a smoothie made with Lacprodan® Smooth80, a whey protein that can boost the protein content of smoothies to as high as 6 percent without negatively impacting taste or texture; and a snack bar formulated with Nutrilac® PB-8420—a natural milk protein—which offers a long shelf life with a pleasant soft texture that is retained for more than a year.
Allma Microalgae unveiled a prototype concentrated ‘liquid chlorella’ that harnesses the natural nutritional power of Chlorella vulgaris in a format that’s easy for food and beverage manufacturers to use. The new extract is hydrophilic, which means it is an aqueous extract that includes high levels of some of the water-based nutrients from Allma’s sun-grown Chlorella, including essential amino acids, vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, calcium, chlorophyll, lutein and zeaxanthin, but none of the lipophilic oil-based nutrients such as omega-3s and omega-6. As a result, it offers higher solubility than whole chlorella powder and a significant reduction in the marine taste sometimes associated with microalgae ingredients. Allma’s new liquid chlorella will make its debut on stand I64 at Vitafoods Europe.
Also debuting at Vitafoods Europe, Bifodan A/S announced the market introduction of FastMelt Immuno, a formulation of clinically documented probiotic strains and an innovative matrix of carefully selected excipients, offering the consumer a solution in support of year-round immune health. FastMelt Immuno is a probiotic powder designed for direct dosing on the tongue. The powder has been especially developed for a fast-melting, cooling and good-tasting experience.
