DARTMOUTH, Nova Scotia—Ocean Nutrition Canada Ltd. (ONC) announced Good Foods Enterprises is using ONC’s MEG-3® omega-3 ingredient in three cookies available in elementary schools in Ontario. The Mr. Cookie with MEG-3 product comes in oatmeal, chocolate chip and double chocolate flavors, and each cookie supplies 25 mg of MEG- 3 eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from fish oil.Good Foods Enterprises has supplied its products to schools for more than 10 years, and the company said it has seen a 75-percent increase in sales since enhancing the product with the healthy omega-3s.

Ian Lucas, executive vice president of global marketing with ONC (www.ocean-nutrition.com), said the company is actively pursuing further supply partnerships to deliver MEG-3 products to children. “We hope to have our MEG-3 ingredient in many other products in the school system before the end of the year in order to fight the nutrition gap that exists,” he said. “Schools that offer Mr. Cookie have given children a way to get the goodness of fish, without the taste or smell of fish.”
