NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.A new study evaluated the effect of Phyllanthus emblica (CAPROS by Natreon) on cold pressor stress test, a cardiovascular test performed by immersing the hand into an ice water bath until pain is unbearable, induced changes on cardiovascular parameters and aortic wave reflections in health subjects (Pharmacognosy Research, 2014 Jan-Mar;6(1):29-35).
The double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study included 12 healthy volunteers, randomized to receive two capsules of 250 mg of CAPROS twice daily or two matching placebo capsules twice daily for 14 days. Pharmacodynamic parameters such as heart rate, augmentation pressure, augmentation index (AIx), subendocardial viability ratio (SEVR), radial and aortic blood pressure (BP) were recorded before and after the cold pressor test at baseline and at the end of treatment. After a two-week washout period, the subjects crossed over to the other treatment and the same tests were repeated. The study concluded that CAPROS showed a significant decrease in cold pressor stress induced changes on aortic wave reflections. Both treatments were well-tolerated and no serious adverse effects were reported.
We are very excited with the results of this study which suggests that CAPROS may help people cope with cold stress induced cardiovascular changes," said Natreon CEO, Sanni Raju, Ph.D. "This study further substantiates the cardiovascular health benefits of CAPROS and is an excellent addition to the collection of studies which have been conducted to date. We look forward to the publication of several additional studies in the following months."
