NKO Benefits Hyperlipidemia

MONTREALA patented form of krill oil (Neptune Krill Oil) was found more effective than fish oil in improving symptoms of patients with hyperlipidemia, according to a study published in Alternative Medicine Review (9, 4:420-8, 2004). During the three-month study, 120 patients received 2 to 3 g/d of kirll oil, 1 to 1.5 g/d of krill oil, 3 g/d of fish oil, or a placebo. Dosage between 1 g/d and 3 g/d reduced glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, compared to both fish oil and placebo.

Tina Sampalis, vice president of research and development with Montreal-based Neptune Technologies & Bioressources, which supplied the krill oil, said the study demonstrates the efficacy of NKO for regulating blood lipids. NKO is effective for the management of hyperlipidemia ... [and] at one third the dosage, NKO was not only more effective than fish oil in reducing LDL but also in increasing, significantly more, HDL [high-density lipoprotein], she said.
