Omega-6s Don't Improve Heart Failure Risk, Study Says

BOSTONAccording to researchers from the Harvard Medical School, omega-6 fatty acids did not affect the risk of developing heart failure (HF). The new study, in association with University of Minnesota, was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in December (Am J Clin Nutr December 2012 ajcn.048991).
This nested case-control design used 788 patients with 788 matched controls from the Physicians' Health Study. Researchers measured the subjects' polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) plasma levels using gas chromatography, noting they did not find a statistically significant relationship between omega-6 PUFA and HF.
