Pronova Promotes Omega-3s for Lower Cholesterol

LYSAKER, Norway--Pronova Biocare a.s. (www.pronova.com) is promoting marine omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids to help lower cholesterol. The company noted that the National Cholesterol Education Program(NCEP) recently released new guidelines for preventing and treating atherosclerosis that include lowering triglycerides and increasingHDL-cholesterol levels. "The marine omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA do exactly that," noted Björn Rene withPronova. "They work well in combination with statins." The company added that this is important since most statin drugs reduce overall cholesterol levels but may not offer complete management.
