Soy Food Sales Top $3.65 Billion

The soy food category has grown to $3.65 billion in sales for 2002, an increase of 13 percent over the previous year, according to new information from the SoyFoods Association of North America. Soymilk sales rose to $594 million in 2002, up from only $100 million in 1995; soymilk now accounts for 87 percent of non-dairy milk alternative sales in mainstream markets. Soymilk production topped 104 million gallons in 2002, according to SANA (www.soyfoods.org)a substantial increase from 1995s 13.6 million gallons, but still a drop in the bucket compared to the 6.3 billion gallons of milk produced bydairy manufacturers.
