Soyfood Sales Continue Rising

BAR HARBOR, Maine--Soyatech (www.soyatech.com),in collaboration with SPINS, announced a new study, "Soyfoods: The U.S.Market 2002," which indicates soyfoods are one of the fastest growingsectors in the food industry. Retail sales of soy grew 16.8 percent in 2001 toreach $3.2 billion, according to Soyatech, and for 2002, the category's growthis increasing through sales of soymilk, energy bars, meat alternatives and coldcereal products. According to the new study, sales of soy-based foods grew 26.8percent in mainstream supermarkets, compared to 11.8 percent in natural productsupermarkets and 5.5 percent in all other natural food stores. The report alsodetails sales of major soyfood categories, as well as product trends, the topregional markets based on dollars per household and the top 25 soy brands.
