Herbal Ear Drops May Offer Ear Pain Relief

TEL-AVIV, Israel--In the July 2001 Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine (155:796-9, 2001)(http://archpedi.ama-assn.org), researchers reported that a naturopathic ear drop formulation eased ear pain. Researchers, led by E. Michael Sarrell, M.D., from the Sackler School of Medicine, used an herbal extract containing Allium sativum, Verbascum thapsus, Caalendula flores, and Hypericum peroratum in the study. They administered this formula to 106 children between six and 18 years old who had been diagnosed with acute otitis media (AOM). Researchers reported that, based on information gathered using linear and color scales, the naturopathic formula was as affective as the anaesthetic ear drops. The herbal product used in the study was Otikon Otic Solution™, made by Petach-Tikva, Israel-based Healthy-On Ltd.
