AFS Secures Patent for HealthyRoast Technology
AUSTIN, TexasThe U.S. Patent and Trade Office presented AppliedFood Sciences LLC (AFS) with a Notice of Allowance for a patent on its coffeebean roasting process called HealthyRoast; AFS should have the patent numberby early 2004. The patented process enables the roasted beans to retainantioxidants that are typically lost in conventional roasting methods, resultingin more antioxidants per cup of coffee.
The green coffee beans are pre-soaked, roasted, then immediately immersedback into the liquid in which they were first soaked. This process does notaffect the taste and aroma of the brewed coffee, according to Loretta Zapp, AFSs(www.appliedfoods.com) chief executiveofficer.
