Albion Files Patent Application for Dimetalhydroxy Malates

CLEARFIELD, Utah--Albion Advanced Nutritionrecently announced it filed a patent application for its dimetalhydroxy malates.The application is for composition, method of making and methods of delivery.According to the company, the new process involves attaching two metals to eachmolecule of malic acid. This effectively doubles the amount of metal that onecan obtain from a totally reacted malate complex. Malic acid is considerednontoxic and has GRAS status.

Albion concurrently introduced two new ingredients asdimetalhydroxy malates: DiCalcium Malate (30% Ca) and DiMagnesium Malate (19%Mg). The new malates are excellent sources of calcium or magnesium and malicacid. DiCalcium Malate contains 64-percent malate by weight, while DiMagnesiumMalate offers 69-percent malate by weight. They can be used in bars, beverages,tablets, capsules and other fortified foods.
