LAS VEGAS--During the recent SupplySide West tradeshow, Buckton Scott launched its lutein esters produced through supercriticalCO2 extraction. According to Buckton Scott (www.buckton.com),the patent-pending process dissolves the lutein ester as it exists in themarigold flower, utilizing high-pressure supercritical fluid carbon dioxide at alow temperature. The dissolved lutein ester is separated and collected bychanging the parameters of pressure and temperature in a separator. The companynoted that the SCF-lutein ester offers available lutein as trans-lutein and isrich in unsaturated fatty acids.
