Carotech Awarded U.S. Patent

EDISON, N.J.Carotech Inc. was awarded U.S. Patent No. 6,596,306, Drug delivery system: formulation for fat-soluble drugs. The patent involves the formulation of a self-emulsifying delivery system (SupraBio System) that increases the bioavailability of tocotrienols in the gastrointestinal tract, independent of dietary fat or food intake. In a two-period, two-sequence crossover human bioavailability study with Tocomin (natural full spectrum palm tocotrienol complex) using the SupraBio System, results showed the tocotrienol was up to 300-percent more bioavailable compared to conventional tocotrienol oil extract.

We are delighted to be awarded this patent that further solidifies Carotechs position as the leading supplier of natural full spectrum tocotrienol complex in the world, said W.H. Leong, vice president of Carotech. With this system, customers are able to formulate products at a much lower dosage and yet, at the same time, attain therapeutic tocotrienol blood levels. The Tocomin SupraBio System will be the next frontier in tocotrienol formulation.
