FASMAC Finds U.S. Partner to Operate GMO Detection System

KANAGAWA, Japan--FASMAC Co. Ltd. named New Orleans-based GeneScan USA (www.gmotesting.com) its exclusive licensee in North America to utilize FASMAC's patented Japanese Standard Method for detecting genetically modified organisms(GMOs) in food and agriculture products. The Japanese Standard Method will be used to regulate GMOs in the Japanese marketplace, according toFASMAC.

The company's goal is to have a U.S. partner that will be able to provide GMO testing identical to that in Japan. "The U.S. is a key supplier of food and agricultural products to Japan," said Satoshi Futo, president of FASMAC. "It was necessary for us to find the most technically competent partner to provide GMO testing services in that market. ... We, along with our associates in Japan, are confident that the combination of FASMAC and GeneScan will provide the GMO testing support required by companies shipping food products to the Japanese market."

The Japanese Standard Method is a patented procedure held jointly by the National Food Research Institute, Asahi Breweries and Nippon Flour Mills. FASMAC (www.fasmac.co.jp), a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Flour Mills, is one of the inventors of the method and holds the right to operate the patent.
