Fuji Acquires BioProcess AB

TOYAMA, JapanFuji ChemicalIndustry Co. acquired BioProcess AB, a Swedish manufacturer of naturalastaxathin. Fuji already owns Micro Gaia Inc. in Maui, Hawaii, a producerof natural astaxanthin, and recently renamed the subsidiary BioReal Inc.BioProcess was renamed AstaReal AB and is a 100-percent owned subsidiary, headedby Kazuyuki Miyakawa, president of BioReal Inc.

The companies complement each other in their productiontechniques. BioProcess was the first company to successfully produce Haematococcusbiomass through a totally closed indoor-tank facility and has a number ofpatents related to astaxanthin. MicroGaia is an outdoor closed-system producer of Haematococcusthrough its Bio-Dome patented technology.
