Ganeden is focusing on international growth with the announcement of multiple partnerships, new hires and product launches worldwide. Since the start of the year, Ganeden has renewed and added additional distributor partnerships, hired new international sales managers residing in their respective countries and announced new partner product launches on multiple continents.

Arla Foods Ingredients opened a new factory in Nr. Vium, Denmark. The €40 million facility can produce approximately 4,000 tons of high-quality whey and casein hydrolysates a year, creating ingredient solutions for applications in the infant, clinical and sports nutrition categories. Existing production of hydrolysates by Arla Foods Ingredients elsewhere will now be transferred over to the new site at Nr. Vium. The factory features state-of-the-art manufacturing technology as well as pilot plants, analytical laboratories and research and development (R&D) facilities. It complies with quality and safety standards and includes a packing line for filtered products.

Azelis Food & Health, and Asiros have agreed to work together for the sales and marketing of BERRYSHIELD™ in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. BERRYSHIELD is a range of natural berry powders with berry nutrients, ideal for both direct consumption, health supplements and as food & beverage ingredients.  BERRYSHIELD powders have an increased diversity of berry nutrients and the unique protection of taste, color and bioactive compounds.

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) published a report detailing the 2015 market for finished products containing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) omega-3s. According to GOED’s proprietary research, the worldwide finished products market for 2015 was $31.4 billion. Of this the largest portion—36 percent—came from Asia, followed by 32 percent from North America and 26 percent from Europe. The Rest of World category and Latin America added a little over 2 percent each, while Australia/New Zealand contributed another 1.5 percent.

The National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) has endorsed the ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Program. The Botanical Adulterants Program is an international consortium of more than 175 U.S. and international nonprofit organizations, analytical laboratories, professional scientists, health care practitioners, industry members and others that educates and provides advice about the various challenges related to adulterated herbs, botanical extracts and other botanical ingredients in commerce.

Patents

Virun increased its patent portfolio with Esolv® (U.S. Patent 9,351,517). Esolv has several patents and patents-pending that enable stable emulsions containing fats and oils such as EPA and DHA omegas.

NattoPharma ASA was awarded a patent allowing the company to claim that MK-7 inhibits or reduces the incidence of age-related hardening of the arteries in individuals with cardiovascular conditions. The patent covers providing an effective amount of vitamin K in combination with vitamin D to reduce the incidence of age-related stiffening of arteries in doses appropriate to dietary supplement ranges, as well as food and beverage products. The U.S. patent (no. 9364447 re. “Compositions for treating or preventing cardiovascular disease”) was approved on June 14, 2016.
