Hauser Receives Patenton Green Tea Purification

BOULDER, Colo.--The U.S. Patent Office issued a new patent (No. 6,210,679) to Botanicals International Extracts, a Hauser subsidiary. The patent covers a process that purifies and isolates catechins, the active components found in green tea.

According to Dean Stull, Ph.D., founder of Hauser, the process allows the company to remove caffeine and other tannins from green tea, possibly increasing the tea's bioavailability and activity within the body. Hauser (www.hauser.com) planned to have commercial quantities available by the end of summer 2001.
